Alita supports a charity event where 160 pine trees were planted in Alytus this year
For three years in a row, Alita has supported the Green Dinner charity event, where funds raised during the event are used to buy trees and plant them in Alytus. This year, the Alita team, together with other participants in the event, planted 160 pine trees. In three years, 358 pine trees have been planted in the city thanks to the support of the Green Dinner.
“We are happy to be part of this meaningful initiative. This is the third year in a row that we have contributed to the beautification and greening of Alytus. It is important for us to make the city cosy and livable. This is our thanks and attention to the city. The newly planted trees will be a delight to the eyes and a beautiful symbol of the Green Dinner initiative,” notes Vitalijus Aksiutinas, Head of Alita Production Department.
The Green Dinner is a celebration where Alytus turns green. It is organised by the Alytus City Theatre, “Pokyčių ambasada“ and the Alytus City Municipality. The Green Dinner brings together people who love Alytus and whose efforts make the city greener. Greenery and sustainability are the cornerstones of making a mark and leaving a legacy for future generations.
This year, donations from the charity dinner were used to buy and plant many mountain pine trees, which will grow and green up along the Sveikatos takas street (the section between Statybininkų and Jazminų Street). Last year, at Sveikatos takas street, near Alytus st. Benedict’s Gymnasium nearly 50 larger pine trees were planted. In the first year, 148 pine trees were planted near the Alytus Medical Rehabilitation and Sports Center using funds raised at the event.
“I am glad that people’s solidarity creates not only beautiful, but also meaningful things for their beloved city. The planting of the trees has become an integral part of the International Theatre Festival “Com·media” in November, which proves once again that culture sows love in people’s hearts,” says Inesa Pilvelytė, Director of Alytus City Theatre.
The Green Dinner not only has an impact on the environment and the landscape, but also strengthens the culture of donation and community mobilisation in the city. It also contributes to the preservation of the natural-historical heritage (Alytus used to be a spa town with a spectacular pine forest, which was deforested after the loss of Lithuanian independence). Replanting the pine forest is also an act of citizenship.
